PORTO DELLE GATTE
The little port of Santa Maria is fronted by an ancient stone arcade called Le Gatte. Through the years the space inside the arches has been used as an elegant gathering spot, a wine bar, a pizzeria and a restaurant.
It is one of the seaside’s most characteristic buildings, and has been featured in three films that used Santa Maria as a film set: Cavalli by Sergio Staino in 1989; Noi Credevamo by Mario Martone in 2009; and the popular hit, Benvenuti al Sud by Luca Miniero in 2009.
By day you can rent a boat at the little harbor.
At sunset it’s a romantic place to enjoy an aperitivo and watch the sun slip below the horizon with Capri in the background.
In old Castellabate is a scenic overlook called Belvedere (appropriately meaning “beautiful view”) where a breathtaking panorama awaits from this high point above the sea. Daytime vistas sweep over the Mediterranean coastline to the horizon, taking in the Amalfi Coast and Capri. The evenings are romantic when the sun sets and the lights come on below and the moon rises above. It’s the place of choice for many couples who want to enjoy a post-dinner romantic setting under the stars.
Visit the castle of the old town.
Enjoy the views.

Punta Tresino was declared a nature reserve in 1985, to protect its cultural and natural legacy.
